White Background

How do I turn my some what white background to a true white in photoshop?
I have a some what white background in photoshop by taking the pictures on white poster board by the way the light hits the poster board changes the color of white. I need a true white. I was able to key out my green screen in premier CS2 but when I changed color of the background it still had the same problem. How do I rub or take away completeally the background.
Here are some steps with out too much explanation (pc):
1) Create a Layer for Levels:
Layer / New Adjustment Layer / Levels
2) Call that BG (or something like that) / Ok
3) Move the right slider (little white triangle) to the left until the BG is white (don't worry about the rest of the image for now)
4) Hit "D" and then "X" (so the color you are going to use is black)
5) Click on the brush tool
6) Paint over the areas you don't want to be affected by the Level Layer you created on step one, which in your case is anything but the BG. BTW, this is the hardest and time consuming part.
7) Flat the image.
Done!
