How to use a CANON Speedlite 133A?

I have a canon ae-1 program, but when i attach a CANON Speedlite 133A to the hot show, the flash doesnt go off. what did i do wrong?
ps, i dont have a manual for either camera or flash bc i bought it off of ebay.
