Question about lighting kits/stands?

If I set up my speedlite flash on them, how will the flash be triggered? Is there a remote somewhere I use for it, or, what? I know some flashes react to when your pop-up flash goes off.
you can use a PC sync cable from the camera to the flash or you can use an infra red trigger on the camera and a slave on the flash ot you can use a radio wave trigger and slave set up
