Monolight Kit
I have a Nikon D80 with Impact 2 monolight kit and 2 sb600s. How do I get them all to sync up?
I don't know hwo to get the monolights from B&H that i got to sync up with my Nikon D80... I set my 2 sb600s into channel A and B. So how does the impact monolights sync up if they do not use CLS? They go off when i shoot the built flash on the D80 but after the picture is taken there's no light in the image... i'm new so please bare with me. I know if i get the hot shoe pc adapter i could probably get it to work but then would the sb600s go off too since i will not be able to use the built in flash with the hot shoe thing attached?
1) put camera into manual exposure mode (where U set aperture and shutter speed). Set shutter speed to 1/125. Start off with aperture at f/8.
2) turn 1 SB-600 flash to manual flash.
3) set that SB-600 flash to 1/64 of full power. Put that into hotshoe. OR
go into D80 custom menu item 22, and turn built in flash to M and set to 1/128 of full power. If U use built-in flash, set both SB-600s aside. U won't need them.
4) Now, turn on Impact monolights and make sure they have active slaves.
5) Take photo. Flash will now trigger Impact monolights properly. Adjust aperture and/or impact monolight power output to get proper exposure.
Why what U did before didn't work: The CLS system sends out a pre-flash. The preflash triggers the Impact monolights too early. U cannot use the SB-600 flashes remotely without them being in CLS mode. So, they are useless with your Impact monolights, unless U want to use them as triggers.
With the D80 flash in M mode or an SB-600 in the hotshoe in M mode, there is no pre-flash, so the Impact monolights are properly triggered. And by keeping the flash power low (1/64 or 1/128 of full power), the trigger flash will not adversely contribute to the image.
