Light Bracket

Does anyone know why refridgerator lights stop working?
I replaced the bulbs with bulbs I know are good, but they still won't come on. Sears will charge me $70 just to come and assess the problem. Is there a way to remove the light bracket and replace the sockets, check for damage, etc.?
When I replaced the bulbs, they came on momentarily, then went out as though there was a short or something. This leads me to believe it's not a problem with the door switch.
The typical problem would be the door switch, but it could also be the light socket which may not be making good contact with the center pin/contact.
The center contact in the light receptacle could be oxidized and not making a sufficient electrical connection for the light to function (this is most likely to be the case).
One way of trying to verify this would be to disconnect the power and try to scrape the contact with a 'flat blade' screwdriver.
Otherwise, you may just have to live with a fridge that doesn't have a light.
It will not affect the operation of the fridge.
I certainly would not pay $70, or so for something which is not necessary, and is strictly a convenience!
Keep your money, and do not worry about a minor inconvenience, since this will have no effect on the operation of your fridge.
I also have to say that you could replace a damaged socket, but is it going to be a cost effective measure?
The answer to my last question is 'NO'!
You may simply have to live with a fridge for the next 15-20 years without a light.
That is far from being a major problem.
Good Luck!
Edit:
You have narrowed the problem down to the light socket it seems, so if you disconnect the power and scrape the center contact of the light socket with a flat-blade screwdriver, your problem should at least be temporarily sorted.
Squirting a little WD40 in there should help also.
